I love this photo of the old Chorlton station. Its ghost rises again in the form of a new metro stop, which threatens to open any day now. The new metro line follows the old railway line route.
I found it when reading about Manchester Archive's historical photo project. They want help in pinpointing the location of the subjects in their photography collection. Browse the map here.

So the nights are drawing in, and Manchester's Christmas Market is up and running. There is a huge shining Santa sitting at the bottom of the Town Hall clock tower, and gluwein is available at various little wooden stalls. I know this, because it was our destination on the day after the Warm Digits gig supporting Field Music at the Deaf Institute. What a great time! And it was brilliant to hang out with Steve and Lynne afterwards. All in all, this seemed to mark some kind of festive beginning. It's lovely to think about Christmas approaching, without any looming house moving to consider: it's almost a year since we arrived in Manchester.

And whilst I'm on some kind of Manchester tourist-guide tip, the Angels of Anarchy exhibition is well worth a look - if only to see more of Francesca Woodman's extraordinary photographs (and a film). As is the American Scene at the Whitworth: for some reason the simplicity and experiment of one of Joseph Alber's cork-cut prints stays in my mind from that experience.
